Book ID'd to Captain H.P. Boon

The following item is a copy of "The Rebel Invasion of Maryland and Pennsylvania and Battle of Gettysburg" by Prof. Michael Jacobs of what is now Gettysburg College. The book was written and published in 1864 and is a first hand account of the Battle of Gettysburg from a resident of the town. The book is complete except for the fold out map which is usually long gone in these. The book is in exceptional shape with only the corners being slightly worn. What makes this copy special is that is was owned by a Civil War Soldier. Hugh Patterson Boon was a Captain in Company B of the First West Virginia Cavalry and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for capturing the Confederate Flag at Sailor's Creek in Virginia on April 6, 1865. Riding through musket fire and cannon, Captain Boon rode his horse through the lines and captured the flag in the heat of battle. He died many years later at the age of 73 in 1908 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. This book was found in a small antique bookstore in Pittsburg, only a short distance from where Captain Boon spent most of his life. On the first page of the book you can see Captain Boon's signature in pencil dated April 30, 1875. This book is a must have for any serious Gettysburg Collector due to the content and a must for any Civil War historian due to it's history. The asking price for this book is $250.00. Item UA-345.
