An extremely nice shell fragment from the Fort. Blakely Battlefield in Alabama(private property). This shell came covered with surface rust and uncleaned. It appears to be from a 24 lb. shell and weighs about 3 lbs. Sometimes when you go to clean and restore a shell you get a gem and this one is a gem. The surface rust came off easily and the shell darkened up to its original color. What is really amazing is the fuse hole. It is a half section and you can see the entire fuse cavity and the threads are perfect. If this was a whole shell it would be museum quality. This is about as nice as a shell fragment can come nowadays. This one was dug many years ago in Alabama and is a real find.
